Alec Bradley Fine and Rare 2012
I was two days ago at one of my favorite cigar dealers (Manuel's Zürich) and I was lucky because he just found some hidden old boxes. It is a dream of every cigar lover...
I took some beautiful cigars with me and I would taste them all, stay tuned for the reviews.... But now back to Alec Bradley
Alec Bradley, the maker of the No. 1 cigar of 2011 with its classic Alec Bradley Prensado, had a bold plan for a new type of smoke. Brand owner Alan Rubin and his team called upon experienced rollers at the Raices Cubanas factory in Honduras to use 10 leaves of tobacco in one cigar. With the Fine and Rare 2011, the primary cigar that was released was a toro. However, there were some torpedos and perfectos that were also produced in extremely limited quantities.
For the 2012 release, production nearly doubled to 2,000 boxes of 10.The Alec Bradley Fine and Rare 2012 is known as the BR1213 blend.
The cigar smell really really woody (cedar) with some coffee and some sweetness (I will say like Honey BBq) .I think the smell is strongly influenced by long-term storage, but is still awesom.
After lighting the first paff's are spicy, you really can feel the aging process. Originally the spice was a combination of cedar and pepper. It soon transitioned to a more traditional black pepper spice. After about ten minutes , the coffee flavors took over as the primary flavor. The pepper spice would become more of a secondary note and was joined by some notes of cream.(Now I start to really enjoy this beautiful cigar)
By the midway point, the coffee notes became more of a chocolate flavor, and the cream and natural tobacco sweetness continued to provide some nice balance.
"this is a point where you want to have more of this awesome sticks"
By the last third of the cigar, the pepper became the dominant flavor. The end of the cigar was spicy, but not harsh.
This cigar was outstanding good and definitely I will go back and buy the rest of the box.
I recommend a nice Whisky sour for pairing, maybe with a fruity Rye...
